Background

The visualisation group within the ACMC was set up through a mix of university and APAC (Australian partnership for advanced computing) funding. There are approximately 10 staff members working in areas such as modelling, graphics, programming, system administration and general administration.

The visualisation facilities in ViSAC were purchased using funding provided by QPSF (Queensland Parallel Supercomputing Foundation) and from the Queensland state government. $2M was provided to set up the virtual reality centre VisAC (Visualisation and Advanced Computing) and is part of $10M available for advanced computing infrastructure.

Our role is to form partnerships with other groups that need sophisticated visualisation tools, and to provide training and develop educational material. We undertake a variety of projects from pure research to collaborative commercial and non-commercial applications.
